That Proximity Effect re-release!!!! for FREE!

Saturday, May 2nd, 2009

Hey all, i found WAV copies of all the Proximity Effect tracks, and decided to give a go at remastering them a bit. Here they all are, for free to stream or download in mp3, FLAC, AAC, whatever.

our first demo, recorded one track at a time by rec-tek student and friend of the band Lindsey Kari at UNCA in April of 2004.  the inexplicable obsession with Vaseline is readily apparent with this one. all 3 of these songs showed up on the LP, but these versions are a year older, and a bit tighter and more urgent in some ways so we kept them.

the LP!!!! i recorded this myself one track at a time on Chaetan’s first-generation iMac in Chaetan’s basement between February and April of 2005. we recorded every song we had at the time except for one, which ended up becoming Torso takes the silver’s South Carolina. the drums sound fucking awesome on this one, which is a marvel because it took another year and a half before i could get a good drum sound again. and it still didn’t match this recording. be sure to stick around until the end for the piano/double bass/cello/LAMP-SCISSOR-TISSUE BOX PERCUSSION on Jubilee Park. again, this album is totally vaseline-obsessed.

our last recording. space was Ryan’s basement, time was August 2005. immediately after, Chaetan moved to Boston for college. the first two tracks were done one instrument at a time, as per true Proximity Effect style, while the last one is the only recording of the band playing live. and it’s a pretty mediocre take of that song… it was always so much more awesome at shows. oh well. download and share for posterity anyways.

thanks! -gordon
